How will your used cell phone help Africa?
The African Wildlife Foundation (AWF) believes that protecting Africa’s wildlife and wild landscapes is the key to the future prosperity of Africa and its people. For over forty-five years we have made it our work to help ensure that Africa’s wild resources endure. The donation of your cell phone will help to support the following AWF priority programs:
1) Land and Habitat Protection
-example: AWF works to protect land by bringing it under conservation management or ownership. We further this goal by establishing land trusts, engaging local communities in land-use planning, and identifying and safeguarding wildlife corridors. AWF also takes action to strengthen national parks, forest reserves and other essential homes to Africa’s wildlife.
2) Species Research and Conservation
-example: AWF’s field researchers study the habitat needs of endangered wildlife and identify threats to these species. We use this information to develop conservation actions that will save elephants, lions, mountain gorillas (and other species), and the land they depend on for survival.
3) Conservation Enterprise
-example: AWF fosters enterprises that produce income for local communities while supporting wildlife conservation efforts. These include conservation tourism, cultural tourism, livestock and fisheries management, traditional craft-making and non-timber forest products.
4) Capacity Building and Leadership Development
-example: AWF works with local community leaders to improve their capacity to manage land and promote sustainable conservation enterprises. We also fund the Charlotte Conservation Fellowship Program to support Africans pursuing advanced degrees in wildlife and other conservation-related fields.
